LightBurn Demo 05 – Arrays & Grids

The Lightburn Software Series

The Lightburn Software is probably the best generic laser cutting software available (I use it for almost all of my laser work). This series has tutorials, hints and tips as well as the occasional speed comparisons between it and RDWorks. In this video session, we learn all about LightBurn Arrays and Grids. My thanks to the team at Lightburn for allowing me to embed their videos.

0:00here’s a quick look at light burns new a

0:02grid feature so let’s say you want to

0:05make a lot of dolphins so I have a

0:08dolphin I want to make a bunch of them

0:11so this is the right size click the grid

0:16button and then you get a pop-up here

0:18that gives you the options basically

0:22just scroll the mouse or change the

0:24counts to adjust how many of them you

0:26get and you’ve got options like whether

0:30to do the spacing from edges so if I set

0:34them to be zero millimeters apart it’s

0:36basically spacing them out at the size

0:38of the dolphin I can also change the

0:41size to be distance from Center so if I

0:44want them exactly 40 millimeters apart I

0:46can do that as well you can also change

0:52the direction that you’re generating

0:53them in so right now they’re generating

0:55from the bottom corner down here and

0:58they’re going in this direction and X in

1:01this direction in Y I can reverse that

1:03direction on either axis to make them

1:05generate the other way depending on

1:07where the original one was that I

1:09grabbed you can also do some neat things

1:11like mirror alternating columns or rows

1:15to try to make them fit better together

1:18so if you for example if I’m only to

1:22make two rows of this I can squeeze them

1:26together really nicely if I pack them

1:28like this you can see they fit so it’s

1:32not quite a nesting feature but it’s a

1:34helpful way to spit out a lot of

1:37something in a very short period of time

1:39and of course you can do grids of a grid

1:42so if I grab this group and I go back to

1:45the grid I can make another vertical row

1:49and then they’re spaced properly that’s

1:53it
