Contrast Is Not the Same as Quality
A freshly burned area may look very dark, but Russ tests how much of that colour survives physical cleaning. This helps distinguish a stable engraved mark from loose residue.
The Cost of Slow Engraving
Producing broad dark areas with a 5 W head requires time and can create significant depth and surface damage. The session helps define where a low-power diode is useful and where another laser source may be better suited.
